Upon his arrival at EPFL, in April 2006, he also became the inaugural Director of the Energy Center at EPFL.

Caroline Schum: Nest pension fund
Caroline Schum, EPFL environmental engineer, is responsible for the Swiss Romande region of Nest, ethical and ecological pension fund. Since it’s creation in 1983, Nest has been investing respecting sustainability principles. Previously, she has worked for Ethos as a senior analyst. She was in charge of social and environmental company analysis and of the dialogue program on social and environmental issues.
Claude Victor Comte: CIA pension fund
Claude-Victor Comte was elected at Ethos’s board in 2006 and is Director of the public instruction teacher’s as well as the Canton of Geneva civil servant’s pension funds since 1998.

He is therefore proficient in the BAS’s real estate rating which he frequently uses to analyze of demands of building financing.
Karin JESTIN, Fondation 1796
Karin Jestin is the Secretary General of Fondation 1796, the vehicle for philanthropic engagement of the Partners of Lombard Odier, private bankers established in Geneva since 1796. She is also the Chair of the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue, a Geneva-based organization dedicated to enhancing the practice of mediation in resolving armed conflicts. Expert in social sector strategies, Karin Jestin has advised numerous funders on issues of strategic philanthropy, corporate social responsibility and program evaluation. Trained at McKinsey&Company, Karin quickly joined the social sector, serving among others as Special Advisor to the Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies. Most recently she worked as Director with the Michael Porter & Mark Kramer group, FSG Social Impact Advisors. She is a co-author of ‘Why Others Philanthropy as Opportunity’ (2008).
Paul Caroly, Fondation Mérieux
Paul Caroly is Fondation Mérieux’s General Secretary. For many years, he occupied various positions in the legal department within the bioMérieux group, in both France and the United States. In 1996, he became General Counsel for the bioMérieux Group, the position that he left in October 2001 to join Fondation Mérieux. Paul Caroly holds a Master’s degree in business law, a management diploma from Ecole Supérieure des Affaires de Grenoble and a diploma in American law from Washington University (St Louis, USA). Paul Caroly also holds a postgraduate degree in « Medical Ethics and Law » from Lyon University.
Jean-Pierre Klumpp, BlueOrchard Finance S.A.
Jean-Pierre Klumpp is Chief Executive Officer. Before joining BlueOrchard in June 2007, spent his entire career in banking. Most recently he was a member of the Private Banking Executive Committee of Bank Julius Baer Ltd in Zurich. Prior to this, he held the following executive positions: CEO of Ehinger & Armand von Ernst AG in Zurich and COO of Ferrier Lullin & Cie SA in Geneva (both private banks of the UBS group), and CAO of Merrill Lynch Bank Suisse S.A. in Geneva. Jean-Pierre started his career with Swiss Bank Corporation (now UBS), where he held various positions in private banking administration and support, organizational consulting and application development, with postings in Geneva, New York and Basel. Jean-Pierre holds a BA in Business Administration from HEG Lausanne, Switzerland.
Marc-André Hug, SAM Sustainable Asset Management
Marc-André Hug is the Head of Wholesale at SAM and responsible for the distribution of SAM’s investment products to intermediaries worldwide. Before joining SAM, he was head of Wholesale Switzerland at Julius Baer Asset Management in Zurich for 7 years. Prior to that he worked as a Private Banking relationship manager at Julius Baer for 2 years and was responsible for the bank’s fund mandates. He started his career at UBS Zurich where he worked for 7 years in different positions (Corporate and Private Banking). Marc-André Hug studied economics in Zurich and did post-graduate studies at the Swiss Financial Institute (Executive Program). Mr Hug joined SAM in 2006.
Eric Borremans, BNP Paribas Investment Partners, France
Eric joined BNP Paribas Asset Management in 2002 and has over 16 years experience in the field of sustainable development. Based in Paris, he leads the development of BNPP Investment Partners product offering for institutional and retail clients, and heads a team of analysts conducting research in the field of corporate governance, environmental and social responsibility for a range of equity, fixed income and asset allocation funds for retail and institutional clients. Prior to joining BNP Paribas, he was Senior Analyst and Head of Research Services for Sustainable Asset Management (SAM) in Zürich. Eric Borremans also worked for over 8 years for consultancy Environmental Resources Management (ERM) on a range of strategic and operational assignments for multinational companies in the fields of environmental, health & safety management.
Dominique Candrian, EIC Partners SA
Dominique Candrian (1963) has a Doctor degree in economics from the University of Zurich and is a CFA charterholder. Prior to joining EIC in 1999, Dominique Candrian held senior positions within the ABB Group during almost ten years. Dominique Candrian is a member of the Board of Directors of Energiedienst Holding AG (www.energiedienst.ch) and Globeleq Ltd. (www.globeleq.com). He lectures economics at the University for Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland. He is a Swiss national and resident. He lived in the USA, Germany, Belgium, Taiwan, Morocco and India. He is fluent in German, English and French.
Gilbert Brunner, Fair Energy
Gilbert Brunner is a Board Member and Managing Director. Before joining Fair Energy in 2006, Mr Brunner worked for Lukoil for 7 years in different area of the Group. He was in charge of business development for international downstream & trading activities as well as the operational responsibility over the 5 different trading offices (New-York, Singapore, Dubai, Rotterdam, Stockholm) & the representatives offices all around the world. Before that he was with UEB as an account officer of a portfolio of clients, specialized in hard commodities and with Crédit Suisse in the commodity business. Mr. Brunner holds a Major in Economics, Specialization in international Relations and Trade and has attended various seminars and courses for Risk Management at the International College for Petroleum Studies in Oxford.
Patrik Huber, responsAbility
Patrik holds a MA in Business Administration from the University of St. Gallen. He specialized in the field of environmental management and economics. After his studies he worked for Credit Suisse and was responsible for several projects, i.e. the implementation of a web portal for sustainable investments. Patrik joined responsAbility in 2003 to work in marketing and research projects. He further participated in designing responsAbility’s investment processes and building up the respective systems. Patrik is now leading the division of Research & Product Development.
Jeremy Willems, FRR, Fonds de réserve pour les retraites
Jeremy Willems has worked in the investment sector for the last 20 years, starting at Crédit Agricole as a financial analyst on French equities before moving into Europe, initially as a buy side equity analyst and from 1996 as a European equity portfolio manager. As such he has worked successively for Axa IM, Ixis AM and Alliance Global Investors (France). Since January 2008 he is the Director of SRI Investments at the Fonds de Réserve des Retraites, the French pension reserve fund.
Henrik Steffensen, ASSET4
Henrik Steffensen has many years of marketing and business development experience in the high-tech and waste management sectors. Prior to founding ASSET4 with Peter Ohnemus, Mr. Steffensen was a partner at The e-Firm, the private equity boutique of Mr. Ohnemus, where he advised a number of companies on business development and capital increases. He has also served as Vice President Marketing with wireless start-up Remote-i. Before that, Mr. Steffensen was responsible for marketing and large-scale partnerships for Hewlett-Packard EMEA, where he successfully established new business opportunities on a pan-European basis. Mr. Steffensen also helped to establish Sybase and Logic Works in Europe, which both went public on the Nasdaq. He has also worked for environmental protection company Geodur and holds a BA in Economics from the Copenhagen Business School.
Ian Simm, Impax
Ian joined Impax in 1996 and has been a Board Director since 1997. Initially working as corporate finance adviser in the waste and power sectors, he established Impax Asset Management (IAM) in 1998. Since then, he has been responsible for building the business, particularly the development of the firm’s long-only, venture capital and infrastructure teams and investment products. In addition to his role as Chief Executive, Ian heads the firm’s investment committees, and he has substantial day-to-day exposure to the process of investments. Prior to Impax, he was a project manager at McKinsey & Company in the Netherlands where he led teams to provide advice to clients in a range of environmentally sensitive industries. He has a first class honours degree in physics from Cambridge and a Master’s in Public Administration from Harvard.
World Business Council for Sustainable Development
Dr Per Sandberg is Managing Director for the Focus Area “The Business Role” of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) and Project Director for the Vision 2050 project. He joined WBCSD 1 September 2007. Before that he was eight years with the Norwegian energy and aluminium company Norsk Hydro. The last three years as innovation manager, within aluminum and oil&energy. Within Oil&Energy, he was responsible for designing, implementing and executing “Our Innovation Engine”. Focus during his first five years in Hydro was on sustainability topics like reporting, SRI, supply chain and process innovation. He was then also heavily involved with the WBCSD Sustainable Mobility Project, first representing Hydro and then as Project Director during the concluding phase of the project. Dr Sandberg’s first degree is a MSc.Eng in chemical engineering, while his PhD is in the area of applied ethics.
